The pinot noir is the most widely planted grape variety in Champagne (38% of vineyards).
It produces fuller-bodied wines that are slightly more delicate to press to prevent the juice from becoming colored, low in acidity and often mediocre in early years.
In blends, it adds power and body.
It is mainly found in the Aube region, on the Montagne de Reims and in the heart of the Marne Valley.
When the wine is made from just one or both Pinots (Noir or Meunier), it may be called Blanc de Noirs.
