Interview with Mr Arnaud Terrier, Vineyard Manager, Duval-Leroy Champagne House:
"The 2022 harvest is the expression of a sunny vintage, with record levels of sunshine combined with high temperatures throughout the year.
On the other hand, water constraints were more moderate than in other wine-growing regions, thanks to the salutary thunderstorms in June, which "fell" at the most important time, and to chalky terroirs that are better able to withstand drought. Further rainfall occurred a fortnight before the start of the harvest, enabling the grapes to ripen rapidly.
For the Duval-Leroy champagne house, the harvest began on August 29, on the Sézannais terroirs with the Pinots Meuniers, followed a few days later by the Chardonnays of the Côte des Blancs. The harvest lasted a fortnight, under summery weather conditions.
The sanitary quality of the 2022 harvest is excellent and obviously linked to the above-mentioned factors.
The sugar content is high, above the ten-year average, and the grapes are not very acidic, but the balance is very favorable to the quality of our future Champagnes".
