H.V.E. CERTIFIED CHAMPAGNES

The H.V.E certification. is a environmental certification resulting from the Grenelle Environment Round Table. This is an official process, governed by law, and accessible to all operators on a voluntary basis. volunteering.

There are 3 levels to access certification.

Level 1 It corresponds to compliance with the conditions laid down in the CAP, particularly in the areas of good agricultural and environmental conditions (BCAE), the plant health and the environment. This is a prerequisite for access to the other levels.

Level 2 It includes 16 requirements divided into 4 environmental themes (biodiversitystrategy phytosanitary, fertilization and water resource). Level 2 is a obligation of means for Champagne growers wishing to commit to the approach. Several environmental initiatives, such as Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC) or Terra Vitis are recognized as equivalent to level 2. This level is not compulsory for access to level 3.

Level 3 "High Environmental Value (H.E.V.) It is based on performance obligations measured by environmental performance indicators. There are two possible routes to certification.

Channel 1 the operator of champagnes must obtain a minimum of 10 points in 4 areas relating to: the biodiversitythe phytosanitary strategythe management of the fertilization and the water resource.

Track 2 This is based on the validation of 2 indicators: biodiversity (share of UAA ≥ 10%) and weight of inputs in sales ≤ 30 %.

Only respect for level 3 to obtain the H.V.E. certificationwhich is only issued by an approved, independent certification body. In France, at January 1, 2020, 700 champagne farms are certified.
